Vision & Mission
Siliguri Mahila Mahavidyalaya, affiliated to the University of North Bengal, is the only Girls’ College in Siliguri Sub-division. It was established in 1981 to promote the education of the then lower middle class and weaker sections of the surrounding locality. Since then, the College has been serving the society by educating its women population. The core value of the college resonates in its belief that ‘Vidya Dadati Vinayam’ (Knowledge endows Humility and Humanity). Hence the vision of the college is premised on three axioms:
- Holistic Education: aims to provide wholesome education to the girl children for knowledge, wisdom, emancipation and enhancement of capabilities.
- Humility: aims to instil proper values to these children to transform them into optimistic, resourceful, responsible and committed citizens.
- Humanity: aims for these children to become empathetic human beings who can actively contribute for the benefit of the entire nation.
The mission of the college is Education for All irrespective of caste, creed, religion, and economic status’. It reflects the distinctive characteristics of the institution, which caters to the students with varied educational, social, cultural and economic backgrounds. To pursue the mission, the college strives to:
- Continuously improve of the systems to enhance the capabilities of stakeholders. Help the students to progress from admission to graduation.
- Integrate curricular knowledge with value education and need based training
- Encourage the students from learning to earning.
- Provide support to economically challenged students
To fulfil this vision the college has structured three-tired administrative system that actively decentralizes power and distributes challenges to all the stakeholders.
In order to provide such holistic and humanitarian education the college has structured three-tiered system of planning – short-term, mid-term and long-term. Theses plans, in turn, are related to each other as short-term plans help to fulfil the goals of the mid-term plans, which then again, fulfil the goals of the long-term plans.
Following this stratagem the college, overcoming the stumbling block of the pandemic, in the last five years (since 2018) has achieved several of its goals.
- The college has signed MOU with different colleges and educational organisations that assists to broaden the educational horizon of the students by exchanging the intellectual resources.
- The NCC and NSS Units of the college have regularly organised different programs for the benefit of the students and society. The college also periodically organizes training courses on self-defence to ensure safety and independence of its students by a group of trained NCC cadets.
- To promote the talent and creativity of the students, the college consistently organizes various cultural and competitive programs.
- The college also regularly conducts different add-on courses to enhance the skills of the students.
- In accordance with the recent guidance of Ministry of Higher Education The college has also implemented NEP from the academic session 2023-2024 for the betterment of the students.
- It has a vision to open a unit for Women’s Study and has taken necessary measure to fulfil this dream in near future.
- It also aims to introduces different vocational courses for the female students in order to increase their practical employability.
To fulfil its vision and mission, the college not only concentrates on following the roadmap; but also encourages on developing a friendly work environment that supports the three-tiered structure and nourishes personal relationship of both the students and teachers.
