Department of History of Siliguri Mahila Mahavidyalaya organized an one day seminar on ‘ATHENIAN DEMOCRACY’ on 1st August, 2018 at room no 4. Main theme of the seminar is ‘ATHENIAN DEMOCRACY’ which is one of the most important topic introduced by the University of North Bengal in the History syllabus of under graduate course in the core paper 2.

Objective :

Therefore the main objective is to provide a detail and deeper understanding on history of ancient Greece to our students, a valuable source of learning for students who want to gain a deeper understanding of their field. Primary purpose of this seminar is to promote a good educational link between colleges and give the students a prospect to interact with teachers outside of their own college.

Program report:

The seminar started at 11.00 a.m with the welcome address by Dr. Subrata Debnath, Principal, Siliguri Mahila Mahavidyalaya. He has mentioned some important features of democratic system. The dignatories on the dias were Dr. Aniket Tathagata Chhetri, Assistant Professor, Department of History, Siliguri College, Dr. Subrata Debnath, Principal, Siliguri Mahila Mahavidyalaya,Prodipta Bose, Assistant Professor, Department of History, Siliguri Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Sucheta Mitra, Guest Lecturer, Department of History, Siliguri Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Moushikha Chatterjee, Guest Lecturer, Department of History, Siliguri Mahila Mahavidyalaya .

All the dignitaries were felicitated by the students of our college.
Teaching and non teaching staff from other departments are present.

Seminar On Athenian Democracy

Outcome:

It was a very informative seminar in which the following issues are discussed.

  1. Different aspects of Athenian democracy.
  2. History of Ancient Greece.
  3. Free adult Athenian males being considered citizens and having political rights
  4. History of ancient Greece and its democratic structure specifically Athenian democracy refers to the system of democratic government used in Athens, Greece, is clearly understood by the students. They are able to understand the scenario.
Outcome :
  1. Theme of the seminar is beneficial for the students to acquire knowledge of about Athenian democracy and history of Greece.
  2. Core paper 2 of under graduate honours course introduced the syllabus of social formation and cultural patterns of the ancient world which is new for our students under CBCS system. Therefore, this seminar is helpful for our students.
