National Service Scheme (NSS)

The Units of National Service Scheme (NSS) at Siliguri Mahila Mahavidyalaya have been functioning actively to promote the main motto of NSS “Not ME But YOU”. The Concern to serve society is perfectly blended with academics at Siliguri Mahila Mahavidyalaya. The two NSS units inculcates the spirit of voluntary work, democratic spirit, group learning among the students through sustained community interaction. The NSS units of the institution have been performing admirably in conducting community welfare programmes and social work projects in the adopted villages in the rural areas. Regular activities and Special camps form an integral part of NSS. The program Officers of NSS and the student Volunteers actively participate in activities which include plantation of trees, organising programmes on legal awareness, gender awareness, environmental hygiene and sanitation, personal hygiene, nutrition, Eye-check-up camps, Health check-up camps which include like anaemia screening, Thalassaemia screening, HIV-AIDS screening, diabetes screening and others.

Apart from the outreach programs, the NSS units of the institution observe days like Independence Day, World Environment Day, NSS Day, World AIDS Day, National Girl Child Day, International Women’s Day and many more by arranging workshops and seminars and cultural programs. The benefits of NSS are communicated to the students during the Induction Programme of the first-year students. The procedures for participation into such programmes are notified through notice boards.
